The Roth Boys never cease to amaze me. Couldn’t help but laugh out loud to this ridiculous and semi-true music video. It’s kind of ironic that I would blog a video that is about blogging. As the notorious Boyder would say, “Hahayo!”

The Roth Boys Pt 2: Tom ‘Boyder’ Boyd

Brain Bangley, Tom Boyder, Asher Roth

Here is the second part of “The Roth Boys” is here. This Q&A interview was conducted in 2009 and the Pilots Cabin will surely do a follow up this year that will hopefully include  Asher Roth and his DJ, Greg Wreckineyez.

PC: Hey Boyder! Thanks for connecting with us here at the Pilots Cabin! First, aan you let the Pilots Cabin fans know who you are and what Boyder! is all about?
TB: I am Boyder! I am an idea man and I thrive on enthusiasm.

PC: I’ve posted your hilarious videos for fans to see, but what is the Boydercam really all about? What do we expect from the Boydercam in the near future?
TB: Boydercam started when I was in Atlanta. But I’ve always videotaped everything, I got over 50 hours of video of us from college (when Bangley was clean shaven and Asher was rocking polo’s). And I kept filming everything once we got to Atlanta. But now it wasn’t these three corny regular white boys in college, it was these three corny white boys infiltrating the music and entertainment industry. We’d be hanging out at posh clubs with Ludacris and Usher all while rocking mesh shorts, and I thought, I wish my family and friends back at home could see what’s going on here, so I started posting them. I admit the way I edit my videos is on some bootlegged shit with the BOYDERCAM tag and the HAHAyo tag, but I like to tell people that my videos are the “mesh shorts” of youtube. I’m not trying to prove anything crazy, we’re just chillin’. Plus, having people like Asher, Bangley, and Wreckineyez around makes it easy to capture some classic shit. Look for that “DJ Wreckineyez gets married” video and maybe even a “BOYDER is the NICEST” video! BOYDER!

PC: Don’t leave the details out, how did you meet Asher Roth and whats the road been like?
TB: Asher and I went to West Chester together. We had mutual friends, but we never really linked up like that. Then one friggin’ day I was late to work driving down a back alley and I see Asher running up the street, and he was waving me down while buttoning up his shirt. He was also late to his job and he asked me for a ride. It was the complete opposite direction so I am thinking in my mind, “HELL NO DOGGIE”. Haha. But I figured, I’m going to be late either way so I drove him. I remember him talking about how he was going to start DJ-ing to make money and I told him how Jigga’s Blueprint was my favorite album of all time. It was my birthday party that weekend and I invited him through. My house was the sleeper party house too, I always made sure everyone had a good time and no one got arrested. (123 Magnolia Street – We called it the Leaning Tower of Nolia – Cus the kitchen was sloped) Him and his boys kept coming through to party and we all became homies. Now, Asher is my brother. He is one of the realist people you’ll ever meet.

PC: How was college for you? Do you relate to ‘I Love College’?
TB: “I Love College” was an exact portrayal of what college was like for us. The song was made as a way for us to reminisce, because we were months out of college and stuck in Atlanta and we just missed the heck out of college.  It’s funny the way people talk about that song, and say it was manufactured to be a radio song. Ash and us just wanted to go back to the last 4 years of our lives. The label wasn’t even supposed to hear that song!

PC: How did you meet Brain Bangley?
TB: Bangley lived in my neighborhood when we were kids. Young young kids. I remember roller SKATING in his basement listening to Kriss Kross. Ask Bangley about the kickball games at recess…And the first and last time he tried to test my arm from the outfield. Haha. Or about my bouncyball collection. Bangley is my brother too. Some Brain Bangley factoid’s for the fans are : He once wrote his name as “The Funkdoctor” on a history test, He used to drive into the high school parking lot in the morning blaring “the perculator” through a megaphone out his window, He streaked naked down a street and literally ran into a cop, Him and I once remade the song “Roll Out” by LUDA and called it “Row Out” as Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer for extra credit in 11th grade english, and I have never heard him lie in my life.

PC: How did you meet DJ Wreckineyez?
TB: I met Wreck in Atlanta. We were looking for a dope DJ and that’s exactly what Wreck was. It worked out that he fit right into our group too. We were at the point where we pretty much defined who was in our inner circle of homies. But we met Wreck and he has become a great addition. I know you see the videos of Wreck getting super nice, but he is way more than that. He is a great human being and a super talented DJ.

PC: Whats your most memorable moment hanging with Asher and Company?
TB: Up to date? To be honest, everytime we leave somewhere I always find myself saying “That was the best time of my life”. So the most recent experience to date would have to be Wreck getting married in Vegas. My face hurt from laughing so hard the next day.

PC: Can you give us a little sneak preview of things that are in the ‘works’ right now?
TB: In the works..New Asher music. New Boydercam videos. (I think we’re meeting Tiger Woods tonight so I’ll Boydercam that) And oh yeah.. www.SeeMeSawYou.com – Thank you guys for reaching out!

Brain Bangley, Asher Roth, Tom 'Boyder' Boyd

By: JR De Los Reyes

Long ago, I was given the opportunity to interview Asher Roth’s best friends, Brain Bangley and Tom ‘Boyder’ Boyd. You may know them from the track entitled Roth Boys or even from a couple cameos on Asher’s music videos. Get to know Brain Bangley in the Q&A interview.

PC: Bangley, thanks for taking a flight with us here at the Pilots Cabin!
BB: Thanks for having me!

PC: Many people know who you are, and many don’t…let the Pilots Cabin fans know exactly who you are?
BB: On stage, I’m Asher Roth’s hype-man. Off stage, I’m one third of the Roth Boys, citizen to the United States Corporation of America, freebird, freethinker and hopefully soon to be member to the galactic community.

PC: Haha, nice. How exactly did you first meet Asher Roth?
BB: I first met Ash at West Chester Univeristy at one of Boyder’s parties. I walked into the house, first person I saw was this handsome genius, same size as me, popped salmon colored Lacoste polo, playing beer pong. I said to myself, “Who the fuck is that kid?” Boyder took me on a little tour of the house and we ended up on the top floor in his room. He kept on insisting that I hear this one kid rap. So he played me some joints in his room, next thing you know, the kid with the salmon colored polo comes in the room and introduces himself as Asher. We listened to a few more tracks, I started boogie’n, rolled up something and Boyder, Ash and I have been plotting to help change the world for the better since then.

PC: Wow, that sounds like quite the jam session. On the topic of West Chester University, what was your college experience like?
BB: My college experience was all over the place. I went to Millersville University my freshman year. I didn’t do a damn thing except smoke g-bongs, play counter-strike, throw dance parties and drink Vladmir. I was reckless and I had 8 a.m.’s everyday of the week. This landed me back home after a year and I started attending Delaware County Community College for a year and a half. Those were the worst years of my college career, simply because I couldn’t relate to anyone there. After that, I started attending WCU and met up with Boyder and Ash. College for me was nothing but having a good time and learning about myself and others. I promise you I didn’t learn a damn thing academically. That’s okay though because after college I’ve been teaching myself and learning things that I want to learn instead of being force fed bullshit theories and knowledge on how to be a great consumer. No offense to any business administration majors out there.

PC: It sounds like you’ve had some crazy times…what has been your most memorable moment on tour with Asher Roth and company?
BB: The most memorable moment on tour with Asher was probably going to Diddy’s house. Just the way it happened was surreal. We were in South Beach and Ash hit him up on Twitter, Diddy sent him his house number, Ash called him and we took a two minute drive over there. Honestly, riding those rockets he called Waverunners was the best part about it. Boyd and I hit 100mph on some choppy water. If we fell off, we’d be dead instantly. After that, Diddy’s chef grilled up a meal that could feed a whole town, but Busta Rhymes ate it all. Haha, I’m kidding. I’ll tell you what though, Diddy’s got some of the best Chianti I’ve ever tasted.

PC: Earlier you mentioned ‘rolled up something’, honestly whats your take on marijuana?
BB: I love marijuana and 100+ million American citizens do as well. I think it’s great for the soul. It’s not for everyone but it’s your choice. Marijuana has given me some of the best times, thoughts, perspectives and feelings ever. It can provide you with more clarity than a sober mind can or it can make you paranoid as hell. Moderation and good timing is key for me. I feel like the more responsibility and the more you have on your mind, the harder it is to accept the high. Most importantly, it has shown me that most people aren’t chillin’ enough. People really need to relax a little more. But I understand where they come from. They’ve been manipulated and force fed certain ways of thinking by the government and certain religions that they are so sure about. From a legal standpoint, Marijuana should be completely legal, untaxed and untouched by the government.

PC: So we now know how you met Asher…but how did you meet the person whom linked you two up in the first place? In other words, how did you meet Tom Boyd?
BB: Boyder and I lived in the same neighborhood for our entire lives. We hung out a good deal during elementary school, a little bit in middle school, not too much in high school but we reunited our bromance in College.

PC: Talking about bromance how exactly did you meet Asher’s DJ, Greg aka ‘Wreckineyez’?
BB: I met Wreck in Atlanta through a mutual friend when we were trying to put a band together. I’m forever grateful that I met Wreck and the rest of the band members. Wreckineyez is a pure and kind soul/spirit and an amazing and talented DJ. I promise you he will make his mark in hip-hop.

PC:  Dedicated fans generated a series of questions and the two that popped up the most were:
- What’s your translation of the album title “Asleep in the Bread Aisle”?
- What’s your favorite track off the album and why?

BB: “Asleep in the Bread Isle” is a non-conformist point of view. To me it says, “Forget all the politics and fuck your money, I’m doing what I want to do.”My favorite track is His Dream. It’s written and composed beautifully. Miguel’s tone is perfect on it as well. Just an all around great song. You don’t see songs like this  in hip-hop anymore.

PC:  On the teams behalf I’d just like to thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Thanks for reaching out, safe travels my friend.
BB: Appreciate it Pilots Cabin. Stay positive.
