Asher Roth – Dope ****

I’ve always been an Asher Roth fan. Luckily, I had the pleasure to check out these nice visuals and enjoy this Native Tongue-esque beat. For those of you whom are unfamiliar with what Native Tongue represents a eclectic sampling and jazz feel to the music.

Mac Miller – Dig That ft. Cam’ron

Mac Miller and Cam’ron cook up a cool little hang banger. The beat on this track was produced by Big Jerm and is a perfect vibe to accompany the bars they spit. It’s been a while since I’ve heard Cam’ron and I might be biased, but Mac Miller threw out some pretty sophisticated lines.

NY Times: Coach Sees Fredette and Lin Adjusting

Via: New York Times “Jimmer Fredette, the rookie guard for the Sacramento Kings, and Jeremy Linhave a bit in common as N.B.A. anomalies. One was undrafted out of Harvard. The other, though a college star, received mixed reviews from N.B.A. scouts.

B.o.B.

By: Kayron Calloway

Up and comers OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) seem to have stirred up a little controversy. With off the wall lyrics and a unique rap style, they have been gaining quite the buzz in hip hop. The most recent attention has come from the track entitled “Yonkers”. In the track he takes shots at B.o.B and Bruno Mars where he says he “wants to crash the airplane that fagget nigga B.o.B. is in.”

Odd future: Yonkers

B.o.B released a response a few days ago in response called No Future.

Our thoughts are…this could get ugly.

Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi

By: JR De Los Reyes

Don’t you find it weird when you wake up with a song in your head? Or when different things can remind you of different songs? Well, something about about how the sun peaked through the living room this morning brought this song to mind.

Until now, I haven’t had the urge to play this song in quite a long time. To keep this post short, this song by Kid Cudi just goes to show that in the end when it’s all on the line…you got to do it alone!

Wiz Khalifa

"Khalifa is an Arabic word for Successor, Wiz is short for Wisdom"

By: JR De Los Reyes

Emerging rapper, Wiz Khalifa, was born on September 8, 1987. Wiz Khalifa’s real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz and was born in Minot, North Dakota but he is widely known for representing Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Khalifa’s father served in the military so he traveled to many places around the world, before finally settling in Pittsburgh where he attended and sooner later graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School.

The 'Wiz' Kid

Cameron Jibril Thomaz released his first album ‘Show and Prove’ in 2006 and was signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2007. The masses started giving Wiz Khalifa attention from the release of his electro-techno track entitled “Say Yeah”. And with his partner with Warner Bros. Records he quickly got on his grind and followed his efforts with a second album, ‘Deal or No Deal’ in November 2009.

Wiz later signed released his mixtape ‘Kush and Orange Juice’ on April 2010. Khalifa’s mixtape reached out to the masses and Wiz Khalifa received a lot of good publicity…since then he has been signed by Atlantic Records and his career is taking off. He released a hot mixtape this spring, entitled ‘Cabin Fever’. His even has a hot collaboration with Big Sean on the album, that has circulated quite nicely through YouTube.

One of my favorite tracks by Wiz Khalifa has got to be his recently released song entitled “Roll Up”. The music video provides great illustration to what the song is really about. Check it out!

His latest album, ‘Rolling Papers’ debuted yesterday (March 29th, 2011) and is available to a store near you. Be sure to cop his album!

Ricky Ross

By: Alex Meshot

Ricky Donnell Ross (born January 26, 1960), also known as ”Freeway” , is a convicted drug trafficker best known for the “drug empire” that he presided over in Los Angeles, in the early 1980s. As several rappers grew up in poverty, in the middle of the drug world, Ross had a huge influence on the hip-hop community. Rappers Rick Ross and Freeway have acquired their moniker from Ricky Ross. The nickname “Freeway” came from Ross’s ownership of several properties along the Harbor Freeway. His old house he grew up in is where a freeway now stands. With a similar story to Frank Lucas, Ross was once the most successful business man in America until he met his descent.

“Wanted to be Freeway Rick/He showed me how turn a stolen 5.0 into a brick.”
The Game – Ol’ English

It was through Fraser Brown, a college friend, that Ross was introduced to cocaine, where he found a connection to purchase cheap Nicaraguan cocaine. Ross began distributing the cocaine around $10,000 less per kilo than the average street price, his point of distribution being the Bloods and Crips street gangs(which has probably contributed to L.A.’s notorious gang violence). Ross claims to have made $2 million in one day.

“Nearly half of America’s largest cities is one-quarter black/ That’s why they gave Ricky Ross all the crack.”
Mos Def – Mathematics

In 1996, Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of trying to purchase more than 100 kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent.  The decision in Ross’s case was brought to a federal court of appeals where his life sentence was reduced to 20 years. His sentence has since been reduced further for being a model prisoner and he was moved to a halfway house in California in March 2009, and was released on September 29, 2009.

HUF x Diamond

By: Kayron Calloway

Nicky D is at it again! Here is a sneak peak of another clean collaboration of fresh street wear. The photos were retrieved off of Nicky Diamonds twitter account. This time around Nicky D has provided us a Bay connection with the ultra clean brand, HUF.

HUF is a skateboard and clothing brand from San Francisco, California. They have a flagship store in Los Angeles, California and widely known for their clean smooth look. Diamond, on the other hand, is known for their creative style. It’s clear to see how the creativity of Diamond Supply Co. and simplistic style of HUF will be an explosive combination.

Needless to say these are two of my favorite brands…so while your in line this Saturday, say whats up! I’ll be there.

On every song, there is an instrumental that is amazing, like something you would expect from Slightly Stoopid, who happens to be their best comparison, since Aer adds doses of reggae, alternative, hip-hop, electronic, and even a bit of pop. This duo out of Wayland, MA, Aer, pronounced “Air” combines a lot of soothing sounds and vocals to make some easy listening songs that are so fresh. This is their second tape, and it shows that they have been improving and are set to explode soon enough.Download the mixtape Water On The Moon here.
