At one time or another we all have shared a consumers mindset. What is the difference between “I need” and “I want”? A line in The Book of Eli really stuck with me, Denzel says “People kill each other over things we used to throw away.”

by j.delosreyes on May.28, 2010, under Misc

So if you didn’t already know. Kid Cudi has been teaming up with artist Chip the Ripper, a group known as The Almighty GloryUs. Today they dropped one hot joint entitled “All Talk” featuring both artists AND Christian Bale! Of course Bale isn’t singing, but the intro is quite amusing.

Guinness beer has teamed up with hip hop recording artist Shawn Chrystopher for a mini-tour, a series of advertisements, and most notably a reality webseries set to premiere mid June.

The series, Grind 168, will follow Shawn and show viewers an all-access look into the life of an artist who is simultaneously balancing family struggles with the pressure of surviving in a cut-throat industry.

From producing tracks in the studio with other well known artists, to flying across the country for shows and appearances, to being at home with his family and friends, Guinness cameras will be there every step of the way.

Ten Little Nigger Girls

by j.delosreyes on May.04, 2010, under Misc

Via: KanyeWest

This is in continuance to the “Ten Little Nigger Boys” post, click HERE

Place of origin:Britain (made)
Date:ca.1900 (made)
Artist/Maker:Thompson, G. H. (artist) Nister, Ernest (publisher)
Materials and Techniques:Pen and ink and watercolour on card

Ernest Nister (1842-1909) began his publishing career in 1885 when he acquired a lithographic workshop in Nemberg and printed books for London publishers. In 1888 he became a publisher in his own right with offices at 24 St. Bride Street, London. He appointed the writer and editor, Robert Ellice Mack, as director.

Nister specialised in high quality colour printing for children in the last quarter of the 19th century. Movable books with various mechanisms became his speciality after 1890 (when be published his first stand-up book) but he also produced numerous picture books, annuals, poetry, nursery rhymes, calendars and greetings cards. He worked with a core of writers, including Clifton Bingham and Robert Ellice Mack, and illustrators, in particular Eveline Lance, Harriett M. Bennett, Edith A. Cubitt and Rosa Petherick.

G. H. Thomspon produced this illustration for the nursery rhyme, Ten Little Nigger Boys, published by Ernest Nister in London and E. P. Dutton & Co. in New York, ca.1900. The nursery rhyme is a counting rhyme, beginning with ten little boys and ending with one. This drawing illustrates the verses:
‘One little nigger boy living all alone; He got married, and then there were none.’

This genre, which also included Ten Little Nigger Girls, was popular at the end of the 19th century. The term ‘nigger’ was used in Europe and America to describe a person of black (sub-Saharan) African ancestry from the 17th century. It began to gain pejorative associations from the 1800s but was used in book titles of the 19th century without racist intent. The term is repeated here in its original historical context.

Dom Kennedy Paying Dues

by a.meshot on Apr.13, 2010, under Apparel, Fashion, Hobbies, Misc, Music, Video

“Leimert Park, what’s cool?” It’s always refreshing to see hard work accompanied with a positive attitude paying off. Dom Kennedy has become the perfect example of this statement, if you put in the effort you will experience success. “White Sox fitted/im chillin on top/rookie in the game but I’m feeling like I’m not.”

I have been following the career of this Leimert Park native since Dom’s self-produced, promoted and distributed “25th Hour” mix-tape. Be sure to check out other projects from Dom Kennedy including, Future Street/Drug Sounds, Best After Bobby Mixtape (DJ Sour Milk of Power 106 and the Los Angeles Leakers collaboration), as well as his most recent project, From the Westside with Love.

Drake – “Over”

by a.meshot on Apr.12, 2010, under Misc, Music, Television, Uncategorized, Video

1st single from Drake off of his debut album titled “Thank Me Later”

I feel like this is a great song and single for Drake and was anxious to see the video after 1st hearing the audio track. I was also curious to see how Drake would follow up his previous video debuts like “Best I Ever Had,” which consisted of beautiful women wearing next to nothing, and creatively lacking depth. The “Best I Ever Had” video left me and others disappointed and wanting more out of Aubrey Drake Graham. In this video, you can tell he did play it safe by displaying a simple yet safe video, not taking any chances or risks in this video.
